Prof. Parrish in a study visit at the Faculty
The University of Rijeka, Faculty of Law is very pleased to have the opportunity to welcome the most renowned scholar and expert in the field of EU sports law, Professor Richard Parrish (Head of the Centre for Sports Law Research, Edge Hill University, UK), as a guest lecturer. Thanks to the "Internationalisation" grant from the University of Rijeka, Professor Parrish will be visiting our Faculty from August 30 to September 13, 2022. Besides deepening the already close relations between the two universities, one of the main activities will be the opening session of the Jean Monnet EU Sports Law, Policy & Diplomacy Rijeka Summer School, which will start on September 5, 2022.

Praxis Iuris project team learning from the legal clinics in UK
The PRAVRI Praxis Iuris project team is currently on their study visit to the Anglia Ruskin University's Law Clinic in Cambridge and King's Legal Clinic, King's College London. They will meet and talk extensively with all stakeholders, including Sarah Calder, the ARU Law Clinic Director, and Shaila Pal, the KCL Director of Clinical Legal Education. The group is headed by the Prof. Dr. Vesna Crnic-Grotic (Dean of the Faculty of Law, Rijeka) and Prof. Dr. Gabrijela Mihelčić, Head of the project, and project team members: Prof. Dr. Marissabell Škorić, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Igor Martinović, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Adrijana Martinović, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Stjepan Gadzo, Josip Dešić and Iva Parenta.
The project „Praxis Iuris - Free primary legal aid and professional practice at the Faculty of Law in Rijeka" is funded from the European Social Fund, OP Efficient Human Resources.
6th Rijeka Sports Law, Sports Policies and Sports diplomacy Day was held on 13th of May 2022 with a conference: Defining Good Governance in the Employment Relations of Athletes: Open Forum
The University of Rijeka, Faculty of Law and its Sports Law, Sports Policies and Sport Diplomacy Centre with its Head - Assoc. Prof. Vanja Smokvina was the host to key stakeholders who met in Rijeka (Croatia) on 13th May 2022 to debate on Good Governance in the Employment Relations of Elite Athletes in Olympic sports at the fourth conference of the EMPLOYS project. In recent months, the project team had developed a set of athlete-centred principles for good governance on employment relations, grouped into six dimensions, which were now presented and discussed in Rijeka. What improvements are required, what standards are beneficial, implementation of adequate and sustainable policies and what mechanisms and activities need to be in place to improve good governance in athlete relations, these formed the main questions explored in two panels and two keynote speeches.
4th Rijeka Tax Law Day held at our Faculty, April 29th 2022
On April 29th 2022 our Faculty hosted the international conference „4th Rijeka Tax Law Day: Procedural aspects of Value Added Tax”, organized by the Department of Corporate and Financial Law, University of Rijeka – Faculty of Law, in co-operation with the International Bureau of Fiscal Documentation (IBFD), Amsterdam.
Within the conference programme, renowned tax scholars and practitioners analysed a number of issues in the area of VAT procedural law, focusing primarily on EU VAT and the case law of the CJEU.
We are particularly proud that the conference gathered a large number of participants from various countries, which signifies its contribution to the international debate on key issues regarding VAT procedural law.
New book
The book, as a printed and as an e-book, named Understanding the Employment Relations of Athletes in Olympic sports in Europe was published by the Faculty of Law in Rijeka in the edition of the Faculty Center for Sports Law, Sports Policy and Sports Diplomacy and the European Documentation Centre in Rijeka. It is a result of the study on the employment relations of athletes in Olympic sports in 29 European countries (EU-27 + Norway and UK) run within the Erasmus + sport project Understanding, Evaluating, and Improving Good Governance in the Employment Relations of Athletes in Olympic Sports in Europe – EMPLOYS. Authors of the book, together with Associate Professor Vanja Smokvina are Professor Jürgen Mittag, Maximilian Seltmann and Lorenz Fiege (German Sport University Cologne, Germany), dr. Leanne O'Leary (Edge Hill University, UK), dr. Pawel Zembura (Institute for Sport Governance, Poland), dr. Luiz Haas and Thiago Santos (Universidade Europeia, Portugal). Partners to the Project are also Paulina Tomczyk who represents the European Elite Athletes Association (EU Athletes) and Professor Manfred Laemmer koji predstavlja European Olympics Academies. The Final Expert Meeting of the EU_En4s Project Consortium Held in Tirana on 4 and 5 March
As one of the final activities within the project Diversity of Enforcement Titles in Cross-Border Debt Collection in the EU – EU_En4s (br. 831628-JUST-AG-2018/JUST-JCOO-AG-2018), a final expert meeting was held in Tirana on 4 and 5 March 2022 with the aim of presenting the activities and research results of the project. While the first day was chaired by Prof. Dr. Eduard Kunštek from the Faculty of Law in Rijeka, the second day was chaired by Prof. Dr. Vesna Rijavec, coordinator of the EU_En4s Consortium from the Faculty of Law, University of Maribor and Assist. Denis Baghrizabehi from the same institution.
Along with Prof. Dr. Eduard Kunštek, members of this project from the Faculty of Law in Rijeka, as a project partner, are Prof. Dr. Ivana Kunda, coordinator of the Faculty of Law in Rijeka project team, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gabrijela Mihelčić and Assist. Prof. Dr. Danijela Vrbljanac. One of the most significant project result are the national reports of 11 Member States and one candidate country on enforcement and enforcement titles.
