Law in Medicine – Module 1: Fundamentals of Law in Medicine

The Faculty of Law in Rijeka is organising this life-long learning programme in cooperation with the Croatian Medical Chamber. The programme addresses the existing need for a life-long learning programme in the field of health law, aimed at providing health workers and other professionals in the field of medicine and law with the necessary legal background and knowledge about legal framework regulating the field of health and medicine.   

The programme is primarily aimed at workers employed in the health sector, but it is also addressed at all professionals in the field of law, medicine and economy who deal with the issues of medicine and law. The programme enables health workers, as well as legal professionals who participate in the adoption of administrative and other regulatory decisions or represent patients to acquire additional competences important for their professional development.   

The programme is implemented in the form of lectures and interactive workshops in the duration of 20 hours, with the possibility of following certain lectures via video link. The programme is adapted to the specific needs of the health profession, and includes the following subject areas:

  • Introduction into the law in medicine
  • EU and national regulation of medical profession
  • Patient’s rights
  • Access to information
  • Protection of personal data
  • Liability for damages caused by medical malpractice.


Upon successful completion of the programme, participants acquire a certificate issued by the Faculty of Law in Rijeka and 4 ECTS. The programme is also acknowledged as a training programme in accordance with the rules of the Croatian Medical Chamber.
