Within the series Rijeka lectures in Comparative Law<\/a> we had the privilege to host Dr. Ne\u017ea Kogov\u0161ek \u0160alamon<\/a><\/strong>, the Vice-President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia, who gave a lecture entitled \u201cArtificial Intelligence in Judiciary<\/strong>\u201d<\/a> on 19 October 2026. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In her lecture on the use of artificial intelligence tools in the judiciary, the our distinguished guest provided an introduction to this highly complex issue, with particular emphasis on their application in constitutional courts. She outlined the main advantages and disadvantages of such tools, stressing the importance of clearly distinguishing between administrative support functions and judicial decision-making. The use of artificial intelligence tools in the work of constitutional courts offers significant potential for more efficient case management and legal research. However, it also entails risks that must be identified and managed in advance in order to avoid problems associated with the use of artificial intelligence in the decision-making process. The lecture also presented the experience of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Slovenia, which has developed its own internal artificial intelligence tools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lecture also provided an opportunity for discussion with students and faculty members, addressing questions such as how to protect against automation bias, how to define an acceptable margin of AI hallucinations, and how to ensure cybersecurity for such systems, even when they are hosted locally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lecture was organised with the support of the Institute of European and Comparative Law as part of the project Legal and Ethical Implications of the Dehumanisation of the Justice and Public Administration through Legal Technology \u2013 TECHNO-IUS (uniri-mzi-25-31)<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Ne\u017ea Kogov\u0161ek \u0160alamon graduated from and earned her PhD at the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana. She also obtained a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from the Notre Dame Law School in the United States. She teaches law at the University of Primorska in Koper, Slovenia. Her research interests include fundamental rights, migration and asylum law, citizenship, non-discrimination and equality, as well as constitutional law in a broad sense. In 2025, Dr. Kogov\u0161ek \u0160alamon was at the three-month research stay at the Faculty of Law in Rijeka. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
