The Dean Crnić-Grotić at the Conference of the Council of Europe
"Minorities and Minority Languages in a Changing Europe"
The Dean of the Faculty has participated in the Conference of the Council of Europe "Minorities and Minority Languages in a Changing Europe" held on 18th and 19th June in Strasbourg. The Conference was held on the occasion of the 20th anniversary of the entry into force of the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities and the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages, the two key treaties of the Council of Europe dedicated to the protection of minorities and their rights. The conference was opened by Thorbjørn Jagland, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Marija Pejčinović Burić, Minister of Foreign and European Affairs of Croatia as well as by Vesna Crnić-Grotić, Chair of Committee of Experts of the European Charter for Regional or Minority Languages and Edita Žiobienė, Interim President of the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities. A new book published by a member of our teaching staff

Dr. Stjepan Gadžo, post-doctoral researcher at the Chair for Financial Law of our Faculty, is the author of the new book published by a renowned academic publisher IBFD, Amsterdam. The book, titled “Nexus Requirements for Taxation of Non-Residents’ Business Income: A Normative Evaluation in the Context of the Global Economy“, contains Dr. Gadžo’s doctoral thesis, for which he was previously awarded with a European Academic Tax Thesis Award 2017. Trilateral meeting at the Rijeka Law Faculty: Setting the stage for interdisciplinary collaboration
On June 6th, 2018, Lawrence M. Solan, Don Forchelli Professor of Law from the Brooklyn Law School, New York, Prof. Dr. Borut Holcman from the Law Faculty in Maribor and Viktorija Osolnik Kunc, President of the Association of Sworn Court Interpreters and Legal Translators of Slovenia visited the Rijeka Law Faculty. At the meeting with the Dean, Prof. Dr. Vesna Crnić-Grotić and Asst. Prof. Martina Bajčić, the delegation discussed potential opportunities of interdisciplinary collaboration.
The Dean of the Faculty participated in the International Conference of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OESS) organized by the High Comissioner on National Minorities
The Dean of the Faculty participated in the International Conference of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OESS) organized by the High Comissioner on National Minorities on the occasion of the 20th Anniversary of the Oslo Recommendations regarding the Linguistic Rights of National Minorities. The conference “Language Policy and Conflict Prevention - Revisiting the Oslo Recommendations regarding the Linguistic Rights of National Minorities” was held under the auspices of the Kingdom of Norway in Oslo on 31 May 2018. The conference brought together more than 100 participants, among them being politicians, activists, academics, students, et al. The book “Language Policy and Conflict Prevention” was also promoted at the conference.
Teaching excellence awards for the academic year 2017/2018 at the University of Rijeka
On Friday, 18 May 2018, the 45. Dies academicus – Academic recognition awards ceremony was held at the University of Rijeka Rector’s Office. Madam Rector, Prof. Dr. Snježana Prijić Samaržija awarded certificates for teaching excellence in the academic year 2017/2018 to the teaching staff of the University constituents. At the Faculty of Law in Rijeka, Assist. Prof. Dr. Antonija Zubović from the Department of Commercial Law and Corporate Law and Dr. Danijela Vrbljanac form the Department of International and European Private Law were awarded for their contribution in teaching.

EU Projects Open Doors Day at the Faculty of Law - 9 May 2018 and at the University of Rijeka – 11 May 2018
The University of Rijeka is taking part in celebrating the European Week (6-13 May 2018) by organising the event of the EU Projects Open Doors Days on Wednesday, 9 May and Friday, 11 May 2018.
The first event organised by the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Law in collaboration with the University of Rijeka, Centre for EU Projects and is being held at the Faculty of Law on Wednesday, 9 May 2018 at 10:00 Room II.
At the event the introductory note will be given by Mrs. Nataša Jakominić Marot (Centre for EU Projects of the University of Rijeka) and the Centre’s activity will be presented along with the presentation of the EU Projects Open Doors Day that is being held at the University Campus on 11 May 2018, highlighting the good practice of the last edition of the 2017 EU Projects Open Doors Day. In the second part of the event there will be presented the Erasmus + project Promoting and supporting good governance in the European football agents industry by Assist. Prof. Vanja Smokvina in which the Faculty of Law is a coordinator (the leading coordinator is Edge Hill University, UK).
