Student Ombudsman

The Student Ombudsman is responsible for protecting the rights and interests of students at the Faculty of Law in Rijeka. The position includes the Ombudsman and the Deputy Ombudsman, who are appointed for a one-year term by the Student Council Assembly.

Who is the Student Ombudsman and what do they do?

The Student Ombudsman is an impartial institution governed by Article 17 of the Law on Student Councils and other organizations, which assists students in exploring options for resolving infringements or threats to their rights and concerns in an informal and confidential setting. The Student Ombudsman is not a legal representative for students.

The main tasks of the Student Ombudsman include:

  • Advising students on how to exercise their rights.
  • Receiving individual student complaints related to the violation of their rights.
  • Discussing complaints with the relevant authorities at the Faculty of Law, University of Rijeka.
  • Participating in disciplinary proceedings against students to protect their rights.
  • Other activities aimed at increasing the activation and protection of student rights and interests.
  • Submitting reports to the Student Council of the Faculty of Law, University of Rijeka.

Who can contact the Student Ombudsman and how?

All students of the Faculty of Law in Rijeka have the right to contact the Student Ombudsman if they are unsure how to resolve an academic issue that has been violated or threatened, or if they need advice on the options available to them. Generic and administrative matters do not fall under the jurisdiction of the Student Ombudsman.
