On 24 March 2026, a public panel titled “Generative Artificial Intelligence in Legal Translation” was held at the premises of the Croatian Bar Association in Rijeka. The event was organized by the Alumni Club of the Faculty of Law in Rijeka and the Croatian Lawyers’ Association Rijeka, and included the presentation of a competitive research project funded by the Croatian Science Foundation (IP-2025-02-3140 GenAI-LT), led by the Faculty of Law in Rijeka.

On behalf of the co-organizers the panel was opened by Snježana Maroševac Čapko, President of the Croatian Lawyers’ Association Rijeka. The event was also supported by the presence of Prof. Dr. Edita Čulinović-Herc, President of the Alumni Club of the Faculty of Law in Rijeka, and Prof. Dr. Sandra Laleta, a member of the Alumni Club. Members of the Alumni Club Council likewise attended the panel, including Dr. Alen Rajko, judge at the Administrative Court in Rijeka, and Vatroslav Abramović, attorney-at-law from Rijeka.

The project’s key research questions were presented by Assoc. Prof. Martina Bajčić, Principal Investigator, and Assoc. Prof. Adrijana Martinović, project team member. Their presentations addressed advances in machine translation, the development of new generative AI tools, and by means of practical example, legal and terminological challenges faced by lawyers, translators, and court interpreters in applying these tools. The panel attracted considerable interest and sparked a lively discussion among attorneys, court interpreters, judges, and the wider public. The discussion concluded with a strong emphasis on the need for acquiring and developing new skills that will enable lawyers and legal professionals to efficiently manage artificial intelligence tools in their work.
