A recently published paper by Prof. Dr. Ivana Kunda examines the latest European Union legislation on geographical indications in the wine industry. In this article titled “Novelties in Wine Protection by Geographical Indications pursuant to Regulation (EU) 2024/1143 of 11 April 2024”, published as a chapter in the book “Agriculture through Sustainability Perspective” (edited by J. Katunar, N. Vretenar, J. Jardas Antonić), published by the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Economics, 2025, pp. 477-491, she explores the significance of geographical indications, discussing how they protect the distinctiveness of regions and their ability to shape the identity, quality and authenticity of wine.

GIs play a key role in protecting regional products, preserving cultural heritage and ensuring consumer trust. Through this research, a comprehensive insight into their legal implications for producers and consumers in the global wine market is provided.
