On Tuesday, May 19, 2026, the Faculty of Law in Rijeka and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung held an academic event entitled “How to Educate Future Lawyers: An International Perspective”, with the participation of numerous faculty members, associates, and students of the Faculty.

Our Vice-Dean for the Law Degree Program, Igor Martinović, opened the event after which Pavel Usvatov, Director of the “Rule of Law” Programme for Southeast Europe, presented the activities of the KAS foundation. This was followed by a lecture by Luka Breneselović, Research Fellow at the University of Bremen, entitled “Legal Education in Germany: Teaching Methods and the Structure of the Study Programme.” The lecture provided an overview of the German model of legal education, with particular emphasis on the organization of teaching and the development of practical competencies among law students, including comparisons with educational models in Croatia and other neighbouring countries.

Following the lecture, the two institutions signed a cooperation agreement; Programme Director Pavel Usvatov signed on behalf of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, and Dean Dario Đerđa on behalf of the Faculty of Law in Rijeka.
In the afternoon, a workshop entitled “Structured Legal Case Analysis: The German Approach to Legal Education” was held for the teaching staff and associates of our Faculty. On that occasion, Luka Breneselović presented methods used in civil and criminal law practical classes in the Federal Republic of Germany, which the participants recognized as both inspiring and applicable within domestic legal education as well.

We are pleased that, in the coming period, the Faculty of Law in Rijeka and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation are planning new joint activities aimed at strengthening legal education.
