Faculty of Law on the 13th International Conference “Development of Public Administration”

Faculty of Law participated in the organization of the 13th International Conference “Development of Public Administration” on 1 and 2 June 2023 in Otočki Virovi and Vukovar. Together with the host University of Applied Sciences Ladislav Ružička from Vukovar, the co-organizers  included the Polytechnic of Šibenik, Istarsko Veleučilište - Università Istriana di scienze applicate, Faculty of Law from Tuzla, Department of Law "Beder" University College, State School for Public Administration and Central and Eastern European Association for Public Administration. The conference was sponsored by the Ministry of Justice and Novi informator.

Dean invited to the Croatian National Television (HRT)

On the occasion of celebrating the Human Rights Day, the HRT organised a panel on the fundamental international human rights legal instruments which deal with the rights of national minorities and their enforcement in Croatia, within the multinational magazine “Prizma”, Dean of the Faculty of Law in Rijeka Prof. Dr.  Vesna Crnić-Grotić, who is also the Chair of the the Council of Europe Committee of Experts of the European Charter for regional and minority languages. Other panellists were Assist. Prof. Dr. Antonija Petričušić, member of the Advisory Committee on the Framework Convention for the Protection of National Minorities at Council of Europe and Mr. Alen Tahiri, the Head of the Croatian Government Office for Human Rights and Rights of National Minorities.

Virtual exhibition “The Life and Work of Professor Petar Simonetti”

On the occasion of the Book Month, we would like to invite you to visit our virtual exhibition

“The Life and Work of Professor Petar Simonetti”


The virtual exhibition was created in cooperation with the scientific and teaching staff of the Faculty of Law in Rijeka, Assist. Prof. Ivo Tuhtan-Grgic, Prof. Maja Bukovac Puvača, Head of the Library Dejana Golenko, Ph.D., librarian Martina Grlica and student Lucija Baljak.
This exhibition shows scientific publications by renown legal academic and expert Petar Simonetti, Professor of Civil Law at the Faculty of Law in Rijeka, Judge of the Supreme Court of Bosnia and Herzegovina and founder and a long-time president of the Poreč Lawyers Conference Ownership – Obligations – Procedure, organized by the Faculty of Law in Rijeka which today bears his name.
The virtual exhibition includes three themes: Life and Work, Scientific Opus and Book Collection.

The first stage of the PSEFS project completed with a series of events at the Faculty of Law in Rijeka

On 30 and 31 May 2019, Faculty of Law in Rijeka was a venue of the intense discussion on European family and succession law, private international law, as well as sociological perspectives of contemporary family units. More than 50 speakers from 13 countries, both of academic and professional background, presented results of their research and highlighted the problems with which they are confronted on everyday basis.

Meeting with representatives and teachers of the Faculty of Law in Mariboru (Slovenia)

On December 13, 2021, as part of the Providentia Studiorum Iuris project, an online meeting was held with representatives of the Faculty of Law in Maribor, Slovenia, which is also the last of a total of four scheduled meetings.

The meeting was attended by more than twenty teachers from the Faculty of Law in Rijeka and the Faculty of Law in Split who exchanged experiences with Slovenian colleagues on different models of practical forms of teaching in law studies and opportunities to strengthen practical competencies of law students.

Thalia Kruger on Migrating Children and Private International Law

Migrations have been a pressing issue for some time and in particular since the European migrant crisis beginning with 2015.  Associate Professor Thalia Kruger from the University of Antwerp, Belgium, addressed some of those issue before a full Blue Auditorium on Wednesday 14 March 2018. In her truly inspiring lecture, she questioned the role of the private international law in providing the answers to individual migrant children cases, with particular emphasis on the status of unaccompanied children. Her previous experience as an NGO counsel and researcher in international and European family law enabled her to rely on her broad perspective to establish more intense connections between migration law and private international law. She concludes by saying, inter alia, that central authorities which communicate within the scope of the private international law instruments should be more efficiently used in resolving migration issues in actual cases.
 

A workshop was held on the social status of athletes in Olympic sports

On Tuesday, 21 November 2023, a workshop on the social status of athletes in Olympic sports was held at the headquarters of the Croatian Volleyball Federation in Zagreb. The workshop was organised by the University of Rijeka, Faculty of Law and its Centre for Sports Law, Sports Policies and Sports Diplomacy - the head of the centre and regional coordinator of the project, assoc. prof. Vanja Smokvina.

This is one of the project activities of the Erasmus + Sport project „SOPROS“, in which participated Tomislav Družak, State Secretary of the Ministry of Tourism and Sport of the Republic of Croatia; Josipa Klišanin, Head of the Labour Sector at the Ministry of Labour, Pension System, Family and Social Policy of the Republic of Croatia; Biserka Vrbek, prof. Romana Caput Jogunica and Snježana Pejčić on behalf of the Croatian Olympic Committee along with Blanka Vlašić, President of the NOC of CRoatia Athletes' Commission; Frane Žanić, President and Valentina Bifflin, Director of the Croatian Volleyball Federation; Zoran Primorac, President of the Croatian Table Tennis Federation; Luka Jakovčev on behalf of the Croatian Water Polo Federation; athlete Bruno Erent on behalf of the Croatian Athletics Federation; Mario Jurić, President of the Croatian "Football Union"; Marija Anzulović on behalf of the Croatian Olympic Club; Suzana Šop, Secretary General of the Sports Association of the City of Zagreb and Katja Luketić, Secretary of the Sports Association of Primorje - Gorski Kotar County.
